Best Humidity Setting for a Crisper Drawer (If You Store Greens)

Written by The Skipper Team | July 2026

What the Crisper Drawer Setting is for Greens.

High. In fact, a crisper drawer's high setting is for all the veggies, herbs, and lettuces you store in your fridge.

For leafy greens, the high humidity setting limits airflow in the crisper and slows the rate at which moisture escapes from the drawer. It's better than the low setting for greens. So use it.

But here's a fridge fact about moisture: the crisper drawer and its settings don't actually add humidity. The vents just limit how fast the humidity that's already there disappears.

And in a standard home refrigerator, there isn't much humidity there to begin with.

What High Humidity Actually Does to Your Crisper.

The high humidity setting on your crisper drawer closes a small vent in the drawer wall. With the vent closed, less of the dry refrigerator air circulates in and out of the drawer. Less air exchange means the moisture your produce releases stays in the drawer a little longer before dispersing.

That's a genuine benefit. It slows dehydration. It's worth using.

But a crisper drawer setting is a passive mechanism. It doesn't generate humidity. It doesn't introduce any new moisture into the environment. It simply limits how fast the existing moisture—most of which was in the produce to begin with—escapes. Read more in your guide to crisper drawer settings here.

What Your Fridge Still Can't Do.

The air inside your refrigerator runs between 30% and 50% relative humidity (RH). Fresh leafy greens need 90% to 95% humidity to maintain their structure and freshness.

Closing the crisper vent raises the humidity inside the drawer slightly. It doesn't close a 40 to 60 percentage point gap in the humidity your produce needs to stay fresh.

The high humidity setting is doing its best with what it has. But what it has is fundamentally not enough. The greens sitting in that drawer—even with the setting correct, even with the vent closed—are still sitting in air that's far drier than they need.

The Setting You're Missing That Doesn't Exist on the Dial.

There's no setting on any standard home refrigerator dial that adds moisture to the crisper environment. That function has simply never been built in.

Every humidity dial on every crisper in every refrigerator on the market controls ventilation. None of them control hydration. The dial is useful. It's just not the tool for the job most people think it is.

The tool for that job is Fridge Hydration—a new category built to add the moisture that the crisper dial can't.

Skipper Adds What the Dial Never Could.

Keep your crisper set to high humidity. That's still the right call for leafy greens.

Then add Skipper.

Skipper releases purified water vapor into your crisper, raising the humidity around your greens to levels that the dial can only gesture toward. Together—the high humidity setting limiting airflow and Skipper actively adding moisture—they create the complete environment your greens actually need.

The result: greens that stay crisp and vibrant up to 3x longer. And a crisper drawer that finally does what you always thought the dial was doing—prolong the life of fresh vegetables.

Skipper. The mister for your crisper.

FAQs

What humidity setting is best for leafy greens?
High humidity is best because it slows moisture loss from the delicate leaves.

Why isn’t the humidity setting enough on its own?
It controls airflow but doesn’t add moisture back into the drawer.
